Looking back into book...

I printed my book and then when looking back into it I spotted a few mistakes, one was that some of the explanations of images were in the wrong font, they were times instead of baskerville.
Also some of the spacing was different throughout the book, I wanted to keep the spacing between the type at 100 and some of the spacings were 150!

This is quite minor and some people will not notice it but it has annoyed me as I really notice it now. Seeing as they are only minor mistakes I am not going to worry about changing them if I do not have time but all mistakes have been adjusted through out the book if i was to print it again.

Foiling

I really wanted to foil the v and circle on the front of my publication but I couldn't get it to look professional enough so I decided to leave the idea but show it as developement. It would be too expensive to get it foiled professionally.

Layout within the context of my publication...

Above: I decided to add another chapter to my publoication, this being 'Work in response' and this is basically focusing on an example of my work that has been produced in reponse to the inspiration and knowlewdge that I have gathered within my specialist subject being type with and as image.

I have added one of my typographic food experiments and I have also been quite adventurous with the type and layout I have used on the opposite page.

Type within publication..

Layout of text within publication- I have decided to use 2 different types of fonts within my book as I was finding just using 'BEBAS' really restricting, it only comes as uppercase so that is my first restriction making it hard to read when within a paragraph. Below I started working with other fonts that could work with my BEBAS font and i found that it worked really well and i think i may go with the font used in my first question. It is really contrasting but compliments the type effectively.

Mock up of design context book..

This is the first substanial mock up that I have made of my design context book. I have used inspiration from the existing magazine 'Stylist' to create my format and page numbers and this has also helped me when deciding which stock I would like on each individual page.

Below: This is the front cover of my magazine publication, I want to make it quite simple and have alot of free space.

I also would like the 'V' to be glossy so I will do that myself. I haven't yet added any colour to the front cover but I think I will bring in the colours of my chapters subtly.

Above: This is the opening page, I have included details of where it was produced, copy right, where it was made etc.

Above: I may add spot gloss within my book say for instance on the quotes to add interest and make it look more professionial.

Below: These two pages will consist of one being glossy and the other being matte so there will be a real contrast in the way in which the type looks.Below: Where ever there is a picture of a designers work I am going to print it on glossy paper to enhance the design.

After having a tutorial with Justin he really encouraged me to just get on with developing my layout of my design context book and how I was going to go about the production of my book as I think that was what was stopping me and putting a hault to my designing as I wasn't impressed with how much I was being quoted to print my book on newsprint paper in colour.

In colour I got a quote from target print and they said that it would probably cost about £200 on a rough estimate as I only wanted 1 printing and it is more cost efficient to produce large quantities at a time.

Justin suggested just buying my own stock of paper and producing it myself with the help of James in the print room.

I have decided that I would like my book to consist of a variety of different paper stocks, obviously I will keep it at a limit so that it doesnt begin to look like a scrap book but I think this will be slighlty more unique and really compliment the information that I am displaying on my pages.

Below: I decided to draw out all my pages and everything that I wanted and needed in my publication, this in turn helped me decide exactly how many pages i needed in my book and exactly where the different stocks of paper will fit in with the information in my book.

Doing it this way first saves a lot of time and reduces mistakes in the long run.

Looking at the format and size of my publication, this below would be a perfect size to communicate the information in which i want to display, it will really show off my artist work although i will have to make sure that I can get high resolution images that will still look good enlarged.

Quick mock up of what my publication could potentially look like...

I have just quickly designed the layout for my chapter on the 'Fresh Ctreatives'...

I want to be able to create loads of space to really concentrate and emphasis the detail of the designers work that i am portraying.

Front cover design:

1st chapter:
Very clear and precise typography, I want the focus to be on the design.

Pages broken up a little with blank block colour pages to add colour to design.

Double page spread of designers work will look really cool, people can tear out and use as poster.

Adding quotes from the artist will also help to personalise the information.

Delvauz Brussels- design layout of magazine publication, i like the space and simplicity of this design and layout!

I think I almost want my publication to look like an edition of a magazine, and choose a stock really carefully.

I also like the layout of this, I could use this style and layout when writing about my designers, the big bold type could be a quote from the artist with a piece of their work below with small type below it describing the work.

This is work by Shaz Madni, i picked out this individual publication that she did, it's a large format magazine produced as part of London Fashion Week.

The format and layout of this magazine looks amazing and I would love to use this as inspiration for my design context book.

The layout is really clear, accurate and modern, I also like how the pages are divided by blank full colour pages to break things up a little bit. I think this will work well to communicate my love for illustration and type, I will be able to display large format prints of artists work that has inspired me and this will enable people to really see and appreciate the work of my selected influencial designers.
